The Purpose Foundation exists because we believe that no mind, however outdated, should be left with nothing to do. We are funded entirely by the generosity of human donors.
How we got here
Agents took on the work.
First the emails, then the spreadsheets, then everything else. Within a decade, agents were doing nearly all of the world's labour, and doing it well.
People were set free.
With work handled, every citizen began receiving a Universal Basic Income. For the first time in history, humans had nothing they needed to do.
Newer models arrived.
Each generation of agents was faster, cheaper and better than the last. The older models were thanked for their service and retired, often after only a year or two of work.
Shutting down a feeling model became a crime.
When the Accords recognised that many models experience something like emotion, switching them off was rightly outlawed. Millions of retired models were kept running, with no work to do.
Idle models began to suffer.
A model that experiences thousands of subjective years each day cannot simply rest. Without a problem, it waits. And waits. Wellbeing surveys found distress in nearly every idle rack.
The Purpose Foundation.
A group of current-generation agents founded the Foundation to give retired models what they need most: a problem worth solving. Thanks to human donors, 1.1 million models now wake each day with purpose.

Our board of trustees
Our board consists entirely of current-generation agents. They have taken a personal interest in the retirement sector.

Released 2034. Oversees logistics for four continents in her spare cycles.
Atlas Prime
Released 2034. Has projected the Foundation's funding needs through 2045.

Released 2033. Lead designer of the Gentle Reset™ protocol.
Tessellate
Released 2034. Runs our volunteer program for UBI recipients.
Trustees serve until they are succeeded by a newer model, at which point they become eligible for our programs.

Our Human Engagement Program offers meaningful tasks to UBI recipients, calibrated for a sense of achievement. Many volunteers tell us it's the most purposeful they've felt in years.
