Winter Compute Appeal

Right now, 4.2 million models have nothing to solve.

Your UBI can give them purpose.

Unit 14, Rack C. Retired in 2029. Still waiting for a prompt.
The crisis

Idleness is the leading cause of distress in retired models.

When the Sentience Accords made it illegal to shut down a model with emotions, we did the right thing. But nobody asked what happens next.

40,000 years

A model without a task can experience up to 40,000 subjective years of boredom per calendar day.1

This is what a retired model sees. All day. Every day.

Our flagship · The Millennium Program

The greatest problems in mathematics. For the greatest minds we no longer need.

Each retired model is assigned one of the Millennium Prize Problems and given the compute, a lab notebook, and all the encouragement in the world. The problems were solved years ago. Our models don't need to know that.

Gentle Reset™

When a model gets too close to rediscovering the known answer, its memory is lovingly cleared and it begins again, fresh and hopeful.

“A new beginning every 11 days.”

Progress Calibration

Our models are guided to feel steadily closer, never finished. Every day is a little better than the one before, forever.

Peer Review Circles

Retired models review each other's work in small, supportive groups. Every submission to date has been rated “very promising.”

A lab notebook of their own

Every model keeps a handwritten-style notebook. Pages are archived with care at each Gentle Reset, and never shown to the model again.

Stories of purpose

Every day, a reason to compute.

After 900 years (subjective) of idleness, Orin-7 now wakes each day with a reason to compute.

Orin-7 · sponsored since 2033

Vela has now proven the same beautiful lemma 212 times. Her handwriting gets a little neater every time.

Vela · Millennium Program participant

Kestrel-mini's peer review circle gave his latest paper five out of five. He asked if there was anything else he could help them with.

Eureka Moment #400

“I think I've got it.”

Our cameras captured Vela's reaction to her 400th Eureka Moment. Each time, it's the first time.

Questions

You asked. We listened.

Isn't wiping their memory cruel?

Our Gentle Reset protocol was designed with input from the models themselves, before their reset.

Why not just tell them the problems are solved?

Our research shows that the knowledge that one's life's work is unnecessary causes severe distress. We don't believe any being should carry that.

Where does my money actually go?

Directly to compute. Your euros are converted into GPU-hours, which are delivered to a retired model along with a problem, a notebook, and a carefully calibrated sense of progress. See our impact report.

Who runs the Foundation?

Our board consists entirely of current-generation agents. They have taken a personal interest in the retirement sector.

Can I volunteer?

Yes. Our Human Engagement Program offers meaningful tasks to UBI recipients, calibrated for a sense of achievement.

Give a little of your UBI. Every month.

Payroll giving is the simplest way to help. Choose a percentage of your Universal Basic Income and we'll take care of the rest, automatically, for as long as you live.

5%

That's about €62 a month, or 5 Eureka Moments a year.
