Table Seven will continue letting guests sit after they have finished their coffee. The Milan café charges €2.40 for an ordinary coffee and nothing for the time spent drinking it.
Guests do not have to explain why they are still there. They are asked to make room if another person asks politely.
Mutual uses a public corner of the café for introductions. Supper runs separate neighbourhood dinners without scoring how well the guests are likely to get along.
A regular said the café knew her name without predicting why she had come. She ordered a second coffee because she wanted one.
